University Council Update September 2026

Spring 2026 Financial Update (Marap):

Initial finances were €8.7 million better than projected, though a decline is expected in the fall. Student pre-registrations rose due to international applicants, but high withdrawal rates and government caps mean final enrollment will likely drop.

Staffing Reductions Vision (support staff):

To match falling student numbers, non-academic support staff is envisioned to be reduced by 100 FTEs over the next 4 years, with restructuring planned and involuntary layoffs dependent on future enrollment and policy

Social Safety & Integrity Reports:

The Executive Board strives to recruit an international CCP and to adjust the workload to give CCPs more dedicated time; further details remain confidential.

Proposed Initiatives:

  • Association Liaison Initiative: The Executive Board supported a joint SAM/FRONT proposal to create a dedicated contact person, and they will explore further options to assist student association boards. We expect follow-up within the next month
  • Social Safety Signage Initiative: The Executive Board approved SAM’s proposal to increase visibility and awareness of support options for undesired behaviour by placing social safety signs at designated restrooms. We expect follow-up within a few weeks.
