University Council update- November 2025

Fall Financial & Management Report

Student Party SAM provided Positive Advice, after several rounds of questions to the Executive Board.

  • We raised specific concerns regarding staff well-being and the negative FTE outflow this year.
  • We pushed for a clear strategy to fill vacancies to uphold the quality of education for students.
Stance on Campus Safety & Discrimination

We discussed the report concerning alleged security escalations during the opening of the academic year against students and staff potentially affiliated with PST and PSA.

  • SAM’s position is clear: We support the university’s duty to ensure safety on campus; however, we strongly stand against any and all forms of discrimination.

This discussion is not over. We are preparing for further dialogue and are ready to advocate for the rights of ALL students.

BIG WINS FOR ALL STUDENTS!

We are excited to announce two wins for the student population, initiated by SAM:

  • TiU Cultural Day: APPROVED!

Our initiative to create a day to celebrate our diverse community has been officially approved. It was announced that we can begin meeting with university staff to see how best to create this event!

  • Digital Student ID & TiU App: TIMELINE PROVIDED!

SAM ensured a clear timeline! We’ve initiated talks on implementation and vision with university staff and will keep pushing until real progress is made.

Additional Points
  • Ensuring Enforcement of Educational Regulations

We submitted a memo to address a legal loophole in our education regulations:

The Rules & Regulations (R&R) are not legally binding, unlike the Education and Examination Regulations (EER). This means rules that students rely on, like the one requiring mandatory practice materials, are often not enforced. We proposed a simple change: to explicitly state in the EER that the R&R is also legally binding. This change will give students real legal ground to stand on, ensure all courses provide the same support, and protect education quality.

  • Letter on Mental Health Support

We submitted a letter urging the Executive Board to take quick action to improve the visibility of mental health support. Many students do not know where to turn for help. We are working to ensure that every student knows where to find support. No student should feel unsupported.

  • Non-EEA Student Equity:

We encouraged the Executive Board to explore multiple possibilities for increasing the financial accessibility for Non-EEA Council members. This way we can make sure ALL students remain represented.
