In the last year we as student party SAM have noticed that the use of the student card at Tilburg University has decreased immensely. Identifying yourself at an exam can be done using a passport or identification card, printing can be done with the OV chipcard and coffee is paid for using the regular bankcard. The student card is currently only needed for access to the library. Meaning that students who forget their student card are quickly punished by not being able to access the university library, even though they pay tuition fees and may have travelled a long way to get to the university. However, there is one thing a student in the 21st century never forgets; their mobile phone. Therefore SAM proposes to digitise the student card. This can be done by integrating the card into MyTiu app, which is already used greatly by students and has already been done at the University of Utrecht with success. The way in which it can be done and the issue of gaining access to the library using a digital student card have both been addressed within the initiative. In January 2020 a new staff member is being hired to evaluate the student card, we hope our ideas will be taken into consideration during this evaluation.
