Student Party SAM handed in an initiative asking for the possibility of availability to get menstrual products on campus, without costs. The university has agreed to start a pilot regarding our initiative.
Research shows that 1 in 10 women in the Netherlands do not always have the money to buy menstrual products. This issue, known as period poverty, also exists among students. With this initiative, Student Party SAM hopes to create more awareness on period poverty, while simultaneously providing the affected students.
The products will be available to those experiencing period poverty, or needing a product unexpectedly. Student Party SAM hopes that, by providing free access to menstrual hygiene products for those who need them, a more pleasant learning environment can be ensured. The products are available to both students and staff, and can be retrieved from the cabinet in the gender-neutral toilet in Cube.
