Two years ago, Student Party SAM handed in an initiative asking for the possibility of the availability to get menstrual products on campus, without costs. Research shows that 1 in 10 women in the Netherlands does not always have the money to buy menstrual products. This issue, known as period poverty, also exists among students. With this initiative, Student Party SAM wanted to create more awareness of period poverty, while simultaneously providing for the affected students. We want to ensure students have a more pleasant learning environment by providing free access to menstrual hygiene products for those who need them. The university agreed to start a pilot regarding our initiative.
During this pilot, students could retrieve free menstrual products from the cabinet in the gender-neutral toilet in Cube. The pilot was evaluated positively and the university wants to expand this initiative.
Therefore, the free menstrual products can now also be retrieved in the women’s bathroom in the Library!
